About The Gala
The Gala will be held at the beautiful award winning Hilton Resort at Mission Bay. The formal dinner will feature top notch entertainment and a spectacular Silent and Live Auction. This gala will be the major event for the San Diego LGBT community. A great time is guaranteed.
Andrea McArdle rocketed to stardom as Broadway’s original “Annie”, for which she was the youngest performer ever nominated for the Tony® Award for Best Actress in a Musical, winning both the Theatre World and Outer Critics’ Circle Awards for her performance. On Broadway she originated the roles of Ashley in Starlight Express and Margy in State Fair and was seen as Belle in Beauty and the Beast and as Fantine in Les Miserables. On tour she starred in Jerry’s Girls, Les Miserables as Eponine, The Wizard of Oz, Cabaret and Peter Pan. Andrea has performed in concert halls from Carnegie Hall to the best showrooms in Las Vegas to the MET Opera House as well as The White House.
The name Aston/Brooks is in recognition of our three most important funders:
- Lincoln Aston Public Service Award
This award is named for the San Diego Developer and Philanthropist whose murder led to the establishment of The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation. It honors a public figure who uses their influence to increase awareness of LGBT issues and encourage equality.
- Sunshine Brooks HIV/AIDS Advocacy Award
This award honors the memory of local philanthropist, Sunshine Brooks, whose million dollar gift has benefitted HIV/AIDS charities in San Diego County for the last decade. The award recognizes an individual whose efforts have significantly improved the lives of those living with HIV/AIDS.
- Richard Geyser Community Leadership Award
This award bears the name of the Founding President of the Board for San Diego Human Dignity Foundation who was an advocate for ethics in community service.

The Lincoln Aston Public Service Award:
Will be given to a well-known LGBT or HIV/AIDS activist who is a recognized advocate for the LGBT Community and attends our event. The recipient will receive a $5,000 grant to be given to his or her designated local LGBT charity.
The Sunshine Brooks HIV/AIDS Advocacy Award:
Recognizes a leader in HIV/AIDS services who has had an impact locally and either statewide or nationally. The recipient will receive a $5,000 grant to be given to his or her designated local HIV/AIDS charity.
The Richard Geyser Community Leadership Award:
Recognizes a local leader in the LGBT community. The recipient will receive a $5,000 grant to be given to his or her designated local LGBT charity.
