The board and staff have worked to strengthen SDHDF by creating
alliances within San Diego's larger philanthropic community and
the national LGBT community foundations. We have had partnerships
with both the San Diego Foundation (assets $400 million) and the
Alliance Healthcare Foundation ($100 million). These relationships
are an integral part of our financial stability in terms of intellectual
resources and our partner's commitment to our continued success.
We are also very involved with the Funders for Lesbian and Gay
Issues in New York, the umbrella organization for all the LGBT
community foundations in the country. We hosted their national
conference in 2000 and continue to use this valuable resource to
seek counsel on what is happening nationwide, what works well,
and how to improve our local communities through philanthropy.
Through conservative investing and financial planning, SDHDF is
committed to financial stability for decades to come.
Over the last eight years, the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation
has distributed more than $560,000 to nonprofit organizations serving
our community, partnering with San Diego LGBT Pride, the San Diego
Foundation, the Alliance Healthcare Foundation, and other organizations.
Through the San Diego Lesbian and Gay Funding Partnership of the
San Diego Human Dignity Foundation and the San Diego Foundation,
we granted more than $391,000 in 2001 and 2002. In 2003, the San
Diego LGBT Pride Fund of the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation
granted $105,000 to local nonprofits serving the LGBT community.
These grants form the largest non-HIV-related block of funds ever
granted in San Diego to benefit the LGBT community.
Although we firmly believe in supporting our future through endowment,
as we continue to build donor-advised funds and our own endowment,
we will continue to grant money to the local community on a regular
basis.
