On March 13, 2005, the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation lost a dear friend and past board member, John R. McCusker, Jr. John died while vacationing at Mammoth Lakes with his partner, David Trick. The SDHDF staff and board of directors extend our deep sympathy to John's family and partner on this terrible loss.
John's outstanding leadership will be greatly missed by our community. John served with distinction as a SDHDF board member for four years, and also was instrumental in planning several SDHDF annual galas. He served as chair of the gala's silent auction for two years in a row. "John made a tremendous contribution to our organization," said Roderick Reinhart, 2003-2005 SDHDF Board President. "John will be remembered for his generous spirit and outstanding dedication."
An exemplary businessman, John was the owner of Club Montage and ReBar, popular local nightclubs serving the LGBT community. John also served on the GSDBA board of directors.
John generously gave of his time and money to numerous LGBT causes and organizations, including a $50,000 gift to the LGBT Community Center in San Diego. In memory of John, the McCusker Family and members of San Diego's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community have established the John R. McCusker, Jr. Education Fund at the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation. Potential areas of funding include LGBT organizations at colleges, universities and high schools, substance abuse prevention education, health issues and other LGBT educational needs.

former SDHDF Executive Director. "John's generosity to our community is an inspiration to us all."
