The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation
Appoints New Executive Director
September 4, 2007

The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation’s board of directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Anthony (Tony) Freeman as SDHDF’s new executive director, effective August 27, 2007. Tony comes to the Foundation after most recently managing a corporate giving program and launching a new corporate foundation serving at-risk children and youth. Before that he served as senior pastor of MCC San Diego from 1996 to 2006.

“The board of directors is very proud that Tony Freeman has joined the San Diego Human Dignity Foundation as our new executive director,” said SDHDF Board President David Miles. “Tony has a long history of leadership in our LGBT community and is widely respected throughout San Diego. He brings a wealth of talent, experience, and knowledge of our community that position him well to lead SDHDF in its work to improve the quality of life in San Diego’s LGBT community.”

Tony will be replacing Dr. Jennifer Campbell who took a leave of absence from the board of directors to serve as interim executive director for the past few months. Miles said, “The board of directors is grateful to Jennifer Campbell for her exceptional service to the Foundation. We welcome her return to the board of directors.”

A resident of San Diego for the past 14 years, Tony Freeman has been actively involved in the community serving on local boards and committees ranging from alcohol and drug treatment facilities to AIDS organizations. His service to the community has been recognized with The Nicky’s Governor’s Award, Champion of Pride, and “Visionary” award from the Center for his leadership in the establishment of the LGBT homeless youth sheltering project.

The new Executive Director stated, “I was in San Diego when the SDHDF was established and have great respect and admiration for the founders. The staff and many volunteers have done an excellent job of moving the founder’s vision forward. I'm excited about working with this group of individuals, and all of our community supporters, who share a passion to provide a better future for the LGBT community.”
