What We Support

Who We Are:

The San Diego Human Dignity Foundation is one of the largest LGBT foundations in the country and the sole community foundation in San Diego dedicated to the benefit of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people.

We fund programs and projects that promote equal treatment, tolerance, wellness, well-being, and above all else, human dignity.

We work to strengthen LGBT organizations and leadership. We nurture philanthropic giving to support LGBT people and address important issues such as aging, arts and culture, health and wellness, youth.

Our Funding Goes To:

Civil Rights

We recognize that achieving equal treatment and securing our civil rights is the cornerstone issue for LGBT people. San Diego’s LGBT community is a dynamic frontier for human rights activism with a broad spectrum of political, legal, social justice, and religious organizations that mobilize here in San Diego as well as statewide and around the nation.

Health & Wellness

SDHDF is committed to achieving equality in health care and wellness of all LGBT people. The full scope of health issues that affect our community includes breast and cervical cancer, HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, mental health, substance abuse, depression, and access to care for transgender persons. Our work directs donors to make the strongest impact on improving the health and quality of life in our community.

We have supported programs for breast cancer awareness, HIV/AIDS prevention and care, and we are the convener for The San Diego HIV Funding Collaborative.

Arts & Culture

SDHDF believes the arts are essential to a healthy, vital community. We recognize the importance of telling our own stories and the power this has in shaping the larger narrative of LGBT culture. The arts can function as a change-agent to engage all types of people, and it helps us to build community.

We are proud to support the Diversionary Theatre, San Diego Women’s Chorus, Lambda Archives, San Diego Gay Men’s Chorus and the San Diego Multicultural LGBT Literary Foundation.

LGBT Aging

We are dedicated to promoting change in the way communities organize care and support LGBT elders and their caregivers. With the baby boom generation entering retirement age, renewed attention and support will be required.

We will continue to play a leadership role to strengthen existing networks and convene public and private funding partners for new initiatives to support elder-support services.

Youth & Families

A growing number of promising programs have been established to help LGBT youth gain the skills and support they need to develop into healthy adults.

We are proud to have partnered with The San Diego LGBT Center and San Diego Youth & Family Services to help address the dynamic needs of LGBT youth and families.
